What is Google Bard AI?

Google Bard is an AI chatbot introduced as a response to ChatGPT. This AI chatbot can perform a number of activities the same as Google's own search engines (much like Bing Chat is now employing GPT-4), in addition to providing automated help and human-like engagement for businesses. However, it is currently an independent product from search, which means it is not yet incorporated into the Google search engine.

It's been in the works for a while and employs LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications) technology. It is based on Google's Transformer neural network architecture, which has also served as the foundation for other AI generating tools such as ChatGPT's GPT-3.5 language model.

Furthermore, it's not Google's first foray into AI, however, the organization appears to have been outpaced by ChatGPT and OpenAI.

Google Bard vs ChatGPT: What are the differences?

Both Google Bard and ChatGPT are chatbots using natural language models and machine learning, but each has a unique set of functionalities.

01. Available data period

In terms of the data period, ChatGPT relies on data available until 2021 at the point of writing, but Google Bard has the ability to use the most recent data for its responses.

02. Prompts

ChatGPT focuses on conversational inquiries and responses, but it is currently being used in Bing's search results to answer more conversational queries as well. Likewise, Bard AI can be used, but only to supplement Google.

03. Language Models

Even though both are AI chatbots, each language models used are slightly different.

ChatGPT is built on GPT-3.5 (Generative Pre-trained Transformer), whereas Google Bard is built on LaMDA. Overall, according to Google, ChatGPT has the ability to respond to more inquiries in natural language at a time. It also features plagiarism detection (albeit it hasn't completely eliminated plagiarism), something Google Bard does not yet have.

Meanwhile, ChatGPT is freely available for testing, whereas Google Bard is exclusively available to beta testers. GPT-4 has already been released for ChatGPT Plus, considerably expanding ChatGPT's capabilities.

In addition, there are several more benefits from the Google AI bot:

Bard can be used to generate blog posts, articles for websites, social networks, and other online spaces. This can help both organizations and users to save time and resources while still delivering consistent, high-quality content.

02. Spark content inspiration and ideas

Bard is intended to inspire creative writing such as poetry, short stories, and articles. This makes Bard a great tool for authors suffering from writer's block, those wishing to experiment with novel writing techniques or topics, or simply those trying to improve their writing processes.

Moreover, Bard can be used to create novel, innovative, and compelling marketing and advertising content such as captions, copies, taglines, emails, and product descriptions.

When will Bard AI be available?

Google Bard is now available through a queue, but it's unclear exactly how long it will take before it's open for everyone to try. There is no set timescale for its wider implementation.

However, Sundar Pichai stated in his talk on the launch of Bard AI that we would soon see it being utilized to improve Google Search, so we might see Bard more widely available in a few months.
